Craniosacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on therapy that works with the nervous system and the rhythm of cerebrospinal fluid along the skull and spine. Using light palpation, the practitioner eases restrictions in the cranial bones and releases tension in the membranes around the brain and spinal cord.
That tension can build up after trauma or whiplash, through stress and anxiety, TMJ problems, poor posture, muscle spasm, birth trauma and more.
What it feels like
Most people find craniosacral work profoundly relaxing. The touch is light, and as restrictions release, many people slip into a deep state of rest, sometimes called a stillpoint, that can ease pain and stress.
CST is based on the idea that the body is connected at every level. When tension around the head and spine lets go, the body is better able to do its own healing. Julia often weaves craniosacral techniques into a broader osteopathic treatment.
Everyone responds differently. Manual osteopaths don't diagnose conditions or prescribe medication; see the frequently asked questions.
